learn more Contact UsMrs. D’s Swim School, Inc. has been teaching swimming to children since 1973. For over 40 years, thousands of students have participated in the swim school. The school is located at 1 Dean Circle, in Andover Massachusetts. The goal of the school is to provide each child with the opportunity to feel comfortable in water and excel in swimming.
The school is owned and operated by Gail Der Ananian. As a Physical Education teacher at Pike School (pre-k through 9th grade) for over 26 years, she is highly qualified to work with children of all ages.
Gail is a certified Red Cross Swim Instructor as well as an Instructor in CPR and First Aid, Sports Training and Lifeguard Training.
She taught swimming classes at the YMCA and was the Waterfront Director at Camp Leslie in Georgetown, Massachusetts. She was actively involved with the Hurricane Swim Team at the Andover YMCA.
Mrs. D's Swim School typically runs for 6 weeks from the last week of June to the first week of August. Classes are held between 9:00am and 1:00pm. The classes are structured and the children swim for 45 minutes each day.
The students come for a total of 10 lessons in a 2-week period and each child is placed according to their ability, not their age. Prior to the 2-week session, there is a pre registration for all new students who are evaluated and their placement is confirmed.
To be eligible for the program, each student must be at least 5½ years old and have completed kindergarten. Students up to age 16 are welcome to participate in the swim school.
Each student has the personal attention of an individual instructor who has successfully completed Mrs D's Swim School. The instructor works with the student to complete all the skills necessary to pass a level.
Upon completion of each level, the student will receive a Course Completion Card. There are 6 levels of the program that bring a student from a non-swimmer to an accomplished swimmer.
At the end of the 2-week session, there is a demonstration for parents. The purpose of this demonstration is to ensure that each parent and student have a mutual understanding of the child's ability.
